My mother would say no, but like some people don’t like the word moist she did not like her Shepherd’s Pie being called a casserole. To this day I still chuckle over it. Today I share with you my mother’s classic Shepherd’s Pie recipe.
Ingredients:
2 lbs ground beef
1/2 cup of butter
1 packet of brown gravy
3 cups of diced vegetables of choice
Carrots
Corn
Peas
Onion
3 large potatoes
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
Salt and Pepper for taste
Steps:
Boil the 3 large potatoes until tender.
While the potatoes are boiling sauté the vegetables for about 10 minutes using 4 tbsp of butter.
Follow the brown gravy instructions to make the gravy.
Add ground beef and Worcestershire sauce to pan with diced vegetables and cook until the meat is no longer pink.
Add gravy to the mixture.
Mash the potatoes and remaining butter until thick and smooth. Season with salt and better for taste.
Add meat to a glass baking dish and even it out as the bottom layer.
Layer the mashed potatoes over the top of the meat mixture.
Bake your Shepherd’s Pie at 400° for 30 minutes.
So do you believe Shepherd’s Pie is a casserole? Drop your answers below. Or tell me how you make Shepherd’s Pie. I like to add a layer of creamed corn beneath the mashed potatoes. I’d love to hear from you.
